A Fiancé visa is for people who are engaged but not yet married to their UK partner. It allows you to enter the UK for up to 6 months to get married. After marriage, you must apply to switch to a Spouse visa. A Spouse visa is for people already married, allows you to stay for 2.5 years initially, and you can work immediately. On a Fiancé visa, you cannot work until you switch to a Spouse visa.
The Fiancé visa is valid for 6 months. You must marry your partner within this period and then apply to switch to a Spouse visa (called "leave to remain as a partner"). The marriage must take place in the UK - you cannot use this visa to marry abroad and return.
No, you cannot work on a Fiancé visa. The visa is specifically for entering the UK to get married. Once you marry and switch to a Spouse visa, you'll have full working rights. This is an important consideration for financial planning during your first 6 months in the UK.
The financial requirements are the same as for a Spouse visa. Your UK partner must earn at least £29,000 per year (increasing to £38,700). Alternatively, you can use savings of £16,000 or more (savings above £16,000 count towards the income threshold at a rate of £1 for every £2.50). You'll also need to show you have adequate accommodation.
After marrying your UK partner, you must apply for a Spouse visa (leave to remain as a partner) before your Fiancé visa expires. This is a separate application with its own fee. If approved, you'll receive a 2.5-year Spouse visa, which you can extend after. After 5 years total on the partner route, you can apply for settlement (ILR).
